@kimberly rues brought up a really good question and I think it deserves it's own discussion thread...What makes something a memoir? Does a certain amount of time have to pass or is writing about…Continue

Comment by Sarah B on August 22, 2012 at 12:18pm The title of my blog is Experiences & Discoveries of a Single Mom which is most definitely a story of me. I write not because I think my story is so significant, but sharing it is part of my journey of self re-discovery. I'm new to this site, group, as well as blogging, but I'm looking forward to making connections and continuing on this ever changing path.
Comment by Marie Nicole on April 25, 2012 at 11:32am I'm in! They say it's best to write about what you know. Often it feels like ALL I know is my own life, especially the previously lived parts of it. So if and when I start to write or assemble my writings together for something bigger, it will be about my life. So far it's been pretty cool...
Comment by Kate Sluiter on April 11, 2012 at 10:51pm @kimberly rues, I wonder this same thing. If I write about the happenings of that morning, is it memoir? I mean, it happened to me in my life. Or does a certain amount of time have to pass for "reflection" before it can be seriously considered memoir?
Comment by Kimberly Rues on April 11, 2012 at 8:24pm @kate sluiter -- I would think that writing about momming the kids IS memoir writing. Is there a certain amount of time that must pass between the event and the writing for it to qualify as a memoir? Or is simply the recording of our experiences enough to make it a memoir?

Apologies, I had fogotten this past weekend was Easter, and I didn't have the time I expected to have to add content. Will try to remedy this week, but everyone should feel free to add discussions, etc.
Comment by Tracy R. on April 10, 2012 at 7:10pm I have nostalgia issues. I write memoir posts quite a bit.
Comment by Kate Sluiter on April 10, 2012 at 11:03am I joined this group because this is what I WANT to do, but I have only dabbled in it. Mostly my blog is about my kids and my POV about momming them, but I do write about my own past from time to time.
Comment by Ben Jackson on April 7, 2012 at 10:39pm Hi Kimberly - you are most welcome here!
Comment by Kimberly Rues on April 7, 2012 at 5:35pm Although I am not exclusively a memoirist, I do write quite often about my life and my kids' lives....figured it would be great to be connected with others who are trying to capture those moments!
Comment by Ben Jackson on April 6, 2012 at 8:56am Also, welcome Maureen!
I'll do some work this weekend on adding some real content here.
