Christmas Poems

I've not been good about posting challenges, but I will make that a New Year's Resolution! For this week, write a Christmas poem. It can be silly, serious, satirical, anything you want. Come back and…Continue

Pen & Paper or Keyboard & Computer?

Started by David Wiley. Last reply by Lindsey Renuard Oct 15, 2012. 5 Replies

I thought I'd start off a discussion here to boost our activity in this group. In most of my writing I prefer using the computer, but I find myself enjoying writing my poetry in a notebook first. I…Continue

I would not consider myself a poet, but love to try writing it. Hopefully this group will inspire me--or make me feel a bit more brave. Here's the only bit of poetry I have published, and it was even sandwiched in the middle of a post. It's Haiku.

People who fall twixt the cracks.

Thoughts lost tween raindrops.

Lives paced moment to moment.

Steps taken eyes downcast.

the world a dream.

lived and forgotten.

Hello everyone.

I am glad to see this group here.  I am a poetry dabbler and has no idea about meter and form and the like. :-) I will be glad to participate in this group though.

I write poetry now and then when a prompt or a picture I find lends itself best to that form. I don't sit down with the intent to write it though. I am sure most actual poets would be horrified at my lack of form and rules when writing it...but I just write what flows.

I'm linking to one I did recently.

I Said What I Needed to Say actually started as a Studio 30 prompt.

Reflections of what I can not see.

Behind me.

Around the corner.

Above me and surround me.

The mirror of eyes, the look of love read in words.

The tragedy of humanity.

Longing and loneliness for the people I have never met.

My words in an endless spiraled ladder.

I seem to be falling.

The motions of the things that control the world naught but shadowy reflections in the deep.

Mirrored in the eyes of the small gods that give us nothing.

We are what we make, in this life and in any other.

Calling to the shine of the future is just letting your tears dull the gleam of the past.

reflections of me.

In your eyes.

Your hopes and dreams and imagination.

Reaching into the quicksilver pool of desire to claim what should be.

It looks like I'll be given a writing prompt for a poem each week in my Poetry Writing class. Would anyone be interested in having me share these prompts in this group each week over the next 12 weeks? It might be a fun way to help improve activity and to see how each of us has a different take on the same idea!

Yay...poets group! I found this AFTER uploading an original poem to the site...awaiting approval, actually.

@David - So jealous! Wish I was taking a poetry workshop or class. I've been going through a dry spell and could really use a kick start.

just words

black on white

settled in the mind

conflicts in prose
